SOLIDWORKS xDesign is a browser-based suite of 3D design and product development tools, developed by the same team behind SOLIDWORKS. Previously called SOLIDWORKS Cloud, it runs on the cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE platform, so there is no software to install.
SOLIDWORKS xDesign is built for engineers and designers who want to design in a browser with no IT setup, and it’s ideal for starting new projects and working across multiple devices. It is cloud-based CAD, not the desktop version of SOLIDWORKS.
Highlights:
Parametric and freeform 3D modelling
Sheet metal, structure and mould design
2D drawings and model-based definition (MBD)
Photorealistic product renderings
Cloud data management and collaboration
SOLIDWORKS xDesign helps teams avoid costly IT overhead, collaborate across the business and keep product data secure.
SOLIDWORKS xDesign lets you say goodbye to costly IT overhead and invest in tools that scale as your company grows. As your needs grow, you can add new tools on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform that work together and share a consistent user experience.
Key points:
No costly IT overhead
Add new tools as your needs grow
Consistent user experience
Design, validate and manage product development in one place
Collaborate in real time across disciplines, departments and your entire business ecosystem, including customers, partners and suppliers. You and your stakeholders can work together from anywhere.
Key points:
Real-time feedback through shared links
Digital markups created directly from design data
Built-in communities and conversations
Infinite virtual whiteboards for brainstorming
Your data is securely stored on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, with access to current files. Users always work with the latest version, which removes the danger of overwriting data.
Key points:
Daily backups, kept for 7 days and then securely deleted
ISO 9001:2015 certified quality management
OWASP Top 10 compliant
SOLIDWORKS xDesign includes tools for 3D modelling, specialised design, documentation and data management.
Create conceptual and detailed designs for components and assemblies of any complexity, using flexible design workflows and built-in intelligence. Shape complex surfaces with push-pull interaction, and subdivision surfaces are automatically converted to geometry when you’re finished.
Key points:
Task automation with Design Assistant, the AI engine on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform
Design Guidance to explore optimal material distribution
Change the structure of parts and assemblies at any point
Change design intent without traditional parametric rework
Build complex models for a broad range of industries with specialised capabilities for sheet metal, cast parts, weldments, surfacing and more.
Key points:
Sheet metal components with automatically generated flat patterns
Production-ready structure, weldment and frame designs
Fully detailed frames with accurate cut lists
Simplified workflows for creating mould geometry
Quickly generate 2D drawings of parts and assemblies from your 3D models, reducing the time and cost of your design-to-manufacturing process. Add product manufacturing information and share it with suppliers to avoid costly discrepancies between models and physical parts.
Key points:
2D drawings generated from 3D models
3D annotations and product documentation
Photorealistic renders using cloud computing
360-degree turntable animations
Manage the lifecycle of CAD data and documentation across disciplines and CAD applications. Track issues, changes and routes, and use built-in revision control to reduce conflicting edits from multiple contributors.
Key points:
CAD-aware online storage and revision management
Control over access to data
Instant notifications for live design updates
Wikis to share team know-how
Cloud-based CAD is online CAD software that runs on a cloud platform, so you work on your designs via the internet. Unlike traditional CAD installed on a local computer, cloud-based CAD can be used on any device with an internet connection. It offers many of the same capabilities as traditional CAD, plus real-time multi-user collaboration, robust version control and reduced hardware costs, as all computation is done on the cloud server.
SOLIDWORKS xDesign offers cross-compatible multi-CAD interoperability with associative update, and it is compatible with a wide range of solutions on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. If you need to open and edit native SOLIDWORKS files (.SLDPRT and .SLDASM), you may be looking for SOLIDWORKS Design or SOLIDWORKS Design with Cloud Services instead.
Yes. With the 3DSwymer role on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, you can store CAD files, share data, track progress and monitor KPIs using personalised dashboards. You can also involve team members as you grow, build an online community of users and contributors, and suggest ideas and track progress through idea funnels.
SOLIDWORKS xDesign includes the 3D Render role (xStudio) for photorealistic renderings. Each rendering job needs rendering credits. The number of credits depends on image size, resolution and complexity, and usually ranges from a few credits to 8 per rendering. The number required is shown and updated in real time on the rendering job queue. The SOLIDWORKS xDesign offer includes 135 credits, and more credits can be purchased if your project needs them.
At the end of your subscription, your data remains secure on the servers for two weeks.
Yes. Speak to the Cadmes team about the way you work, and we’ll help you decide whether SOLIDWORKS xDesign or desktop SOLIDWORKS Design is the better fit for your business.
Cadmes is an authorised SOLIDWORKS reseller in South Africa, so you deal with a local team for your quotes and licences.
